The most important requirement for refrigerants in the aftermath of ozone layer depletion is that it should be a non-Ozone Depleting Substance (non-ODS). The increased use of ammonia and use of other refrigeration cycles such as air cycle refrigeration systems and absorption systems also come under the second route.
