Abstract
In this paper, an inductive single phase statcom built of a single-phase AC-to- DC converter is presented.
The DC voltage of the statcom capacitor can be adjusted such that a constant amplitude inductive current
can be drawn from the statcom with short transient time. The statcom absorbs pure reactive power from the
AC network through a harmonic suppressing reactor. It is linearly and continuously controlled by the
converter modulation index without harmonics association or real power exchange with AC supply. The
design methodology and performance of this compensator were verified on PSpice.
